In 2004,
Fare in sleeper class of Grand Trunk Express from New Delhi to Agra Cant was 140 INR . At that time per person income of India was around 78 INR per day.
Today per person daily income in India is around 380 INR and fare of same train in sleeper class is 165 INR but in 3rd AC is 510....
more... My simple question is -
If Indian Railway is reducing subsidized sleeper coaches and increasing profitable 3rd AC coach then what wrong in it. If it can be called as limiting the options from poor peoples then how they used to manage in 2004 when they need to pay around twice amount of average daily salary of per person in India for travelling in sleeper class?
If you are not having any earning source and you need to ask money from others for bread and butter and take debt for your bread and butter then will you donate that debt money to others? If no then how can you expect that railway should keep herself in loss but not stop the subsidy to poor peoples.
I am not against with rights of poor peoples because i can also be poor some day but what can we do? If it is really a big problem then government can provide additional subsidy in train fare to poor people(Not by ministry of railway).
I request you all that please don't call me fascist. I will be agree with you in case you will be able to satisfy me that how poor peoples manage to travel in 2004.

I have given links for showing the per day average salary of country. For fare in 2022, there is no need to give any link or source and for 2004, although i am not having any source but in case you are having any which can prove my data wrong then provide.
My personal view is that slowly we should get rid of non-AC classes. Most developed railways have got rid of non-AC coaches , primarily because they cause too much drag and also in a country having hot weather like India, those aren't exactly humane conditions to travel in, especially in summer. So it's good that IR is moving in the right direction. In terms of fares, you are right, the fares should have increased by the same percentage as the increase in Per Capita Income, but in govt departments, politics takes precedence and how we have IR increasing fares through the backdoor, which is unfortunate but that's what we get for supporting populist politicians.
Nowhere I have mentioned to increase it equivalent to AC all I want to say is that fare should be increased till such a point that the operating cost of sleeper coach is recovered along with some small % of profit, even if by increasing ₹150 to ₹200 this cost can be recovered would be win win situation for all and waise bhi operating cost of sleeper would be negligible compared to operating costs of AC where the AC unit should work effectively throughout the journey.
My better suggestion would be Railways should turn popular long distance trains SL with 3AC
keeping Garibrath fares for those 3AC.
3 or 4 GS or GN should remain with those trains.
First India must reduce poverty and unemployment before blindly doing this nonsense, this decision to make trains fully AC is only benefiting the privileged. We need to be socialist not capitalist
