This line should have been constructed parallel to Kolkata Mumbai highway and FLS for the same also was awarded. This could have been important to decongest the existing route as well as shorten the distance between the two metros and also the National Highway(East West Economic corridor) coupled with Railway line could have attracted huge investments. But as majority of the above route was to be passed from Chhattisgarh, The RM being from odisha changed the alignment (which was demanded from locals of the state) to favour his state. Also the new line would not reduce the distance between sambalpur/jharsuguda and Raipur much.
This also means in future the railway line parallel to NH would not be constructed. Very dirty politics...

Lekin kyunki zyada tar route Chhattisgarh se guzarna tha, RM jo Odisha se hai, usne alignment change kar diya (jo local logon ne maanga tha) apne state ke haq mein. Aur naye line se sambalpur/jharsuguda aur Raipur ke beech distance bhi zyada nahi ghatega. Yeh bhi matlab hai ki aage chal ke NH ke parallel railway line nahi banegi. Aaj kal bahut gandi politics ho rahi hai genuine aur zaroori projects ko undermine karne mein.
