Land acquisition is also in progress for new railway lines between Sahjanwa-Dohrighat and Khalilabad-Bahraich. The government is focusing on improving basic amenities on the Northeast Railway, which experiences high passenger traffic. Besides doubling and tripling existing lines, the government is working on building new alternate lines. Approval has been granted for the Ghugli-Anandnagar line to bypass Gorakhpur Junction, and the Sahjanwa-Dohrighat line is proposed. These lines will provide alternative routes for trains passing through Gorakhpur station when needed. The construction of a third line from Barabanki to Chhapra via Gorakhpur is a top priority. Work is ongoing on a section within Gorakhpur from Domingarh to Kusmhi. Construction on a third line between Gonda and Bahraich is also underway. Surveys for the remaining sections are in progress.

In dono lines ke nirman se jarurat padne par Gorakhpur station se ho kar guzarne wali trains ko in dono vaikalpik routes se bhi nikala ja sakega.
