Railway Ministry gives approval for Thanjavur-Pattukottai new line

more... line project between Thanjavur and Pattukottai in Tamil Nadu.
This was conveyed by Railway Minister P K Bansal to DMK Parliamentary Party Leader T R Baalu, who is also the Chairman of Standing Committee on Railways.
The 47 km new line via Orathandu was a long pending demand which would benefit many sections of the society, including students and farmers. It would interlink coastal districts of Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam and could be extended upto Rameswaram on completion, Mr Baalu said in a statement on Wednesday.

Hon'ble MP, Shri T.R. Balu met the Press at Mannargudi:
1. Mannargudi - Pattukottai new line via Paravakottai, Madukkur approvd at a cost of 215.59 crores by Hon'ble RM. To be completed in about 2 years.
2. NMJ - MNG line will be operational by Pongal 2011.
3. Passenger Reservation Centre to start functioning in MNG in about a month's time & the one at NMJ in 15 days.
4. Efforts taken to provide stoppage for Tea Garden Exp at Nidamangalam.
