Going through FMship removal post which has been archieved, I have a suggestion, I have worked in the past as content monitor for ebay.uk with a BPO where we used to take down the listings which were not listed as per the listing policies. There we used to monitor all the disputes including profanity. Now for this purpose, there were clear guidelines in writing about which words are not allowed. There are disputes always but whether those sentences were containing any profane words was one of the criteria. I think every one should be allowed to express his opinion till the words used are not profane. Let there be a list of profane words. Like the 'dumb' word used which led to removal of FMship. Let there be a list of such words which can't be used so that the decision of removal does not appear to be arbitrary and biased....
And let there be suspension kind of action and should be clearly stated that such kind of words will lead to immidiate dismissal or suspension as the case may be. I had done that content monitor job in 2007 and 7-8 years on I see we still far behind in web site monitoring, what we are doing is curbing the freedom of expression, let there be participation with freedom of expression but there should be a list of words which should not be used which becomes then offensive. This way whether member, admin or FM have no bar on expression but a bar of offensive words, in any case we are not speaking but writing which is punishable only if we use wrong words. So let there be a freedom of expression for everyone but no freedom to use profane words, a list of which should always be handy on the site. I really feel there is a curb on freedom of expression on this site which I would like to be guided by a directory of words offensive to use and continue with the expression.

Mod Sir,
I have just discussed here the way we used to deal with website violators 7-8 years ago. The ebay.uk company had a search tool for the search of such phrases and the words and would send the listing nos.(like blog no.) to us and we would review and see if it violated the policies, immidiately the listing was removed. The profane words were defined like bast**d, f*ck etc were allowed but not in full form that is complete word as bastard etc. The rule is same for Indian websites also, rather Indian websites take a clue from American rule makers for websites. We can have our own set of rules and words which are not allowed and put this on

website and any body using such words will be an offender and action will be taken immidiately by removing that post/blog and putting the member, admin/fm under suspension/dismissal as the case may be according to our set of rules which we will clearing having on the website as Posting Policy or Blogging Policy or whatever you decide. Now the person affected will be able to appeal his case and review can be done by the admin/fm/moderator to give final verdict and that will be final towards action taken on the affected member.
This definitely requires Search Tool sending such offensive post nos. to admin/fm/moderator to review and take immidiate action. Review is to see the word written in what context. Search Tool will catch the word or sentence like the word "screw", will send to admin/fm/modeerator and who will see the context whether the means was abusive, action will be immidiately taken by removing that blog/post and member can only appeal, the response time to that can be fixed as 24/48/72 hours/one week etc. The punishment bases on the nature of offence can be decided like suspension for 24/48/72 hours/one week/one month/3 months/6 months/one year/life time depending on the rules laid out.
I am sure you must have many other ideas but this is the one which will not put anyone into any position of bias etc. and the site will remain clean as the action time can not be more than 5 min. as the post/blog no. will be sent to all admin/fm/moderator and will reach withing one min to everybody and whosoever can the take earliest action will be the time of that offensive word/sentence. Also other rules can be added and actions against offenses according to set rules taken immidiately and no need for approval. Whatever the case may be the appeal by the member will be put to review an the decision final after the review.
I hope I have not intruded into your way of working, but to get rid of everyday abuse/removal of members with emotional outbreaks will not be there as the search tool is not human and the action will be human based on the review of the offensive word/sentence and it will be common for member, admin or fm.
I again hope you will try to at least give attention to the attempt by me and other members who have contributed to this blog and come to some concrete conclusion which does not put any member/admin/fm in a 'biased' tag.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
