The estimated number of vacancies is around 2.48 lakhs. In August 2022, there were 3.15 lakh vacancies in this category. Appointments have been limited in the last two years due to a reduction in sanctioned posts, leading to an increased workload for existing employees. The appointment is for individuals up to 65 years old. Those facing legal cases are excluded from security-related positions. They will receive their last drawn salary with no dearness allowance, house rent allowance, or increment. The salary will be deducted to factor in the basic pension amount. They are entitled to a leave of one and a half days per month. The contract period is initially for 18 months and can be extended. Appointments are made through the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) for various zones and through Regional Railway Recruitment Cells (RRCs) for zonal level appointments. While the RRBs called for applications for some positions in January, exams are yet to be conducted.

Unhe unki last drawn salary milegi, lekin dearness allowance, house rent allowance, aur increment nahi hoga. Salary mein se basic pension amount bhi deduct kiya jaayega. Unhe ek mahine mein dedh din ki leave milegi. Contract initially 18 months ke liye hoga, aur uske baad extend bhi ho sakta hai. Appointments alag alag zones ke liye Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) se aur zonal level appointments ke liye Regional Railway Recruitment Cells (RRCs) se kiye jaate hain.
